Man Apprehended Charged with Several Crimes in Eaton County including Homicide

PRESS RELEASE – ARRAIGNMENT HELD
Alexander Lamar Banks, Jr., DOB: 10-13-04, suspect in the shooting incident in Delta Township on Friday, February 13, 2026, at approximately 5:30 p.m. appeared before Judge VanLangevelde this afternoon and was arraigned on the following charges:
Homicide
Weapon Felony Firearm x 4
Assault w/intent to Murder x 3
Carrying weapon w/unlawful intent
Possession of loaded firearm in vehicle
No bond was granted. Next court appearance is a Review Hearing scheduled for April 20, 2026.

Active Violence Incident in Delta Township – Suspect in Custody
On February 13, 2026, the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office responded to an active violence incident near Green Meadows and Farmstead Lane in Delta Township.
When deputies arrived, they located four victims and immediately began life-saving efforts while simultaneously searching for the suspect. A short time later, the suspect was located by the Sheriff’s Office and taken into custody with the assistance of the Michigan State Police. He is currently being held at the Eaton County Jail pending authorization of charges by the Eaton County Prosecutor.
Preliminary investigation shows a vehicle driven by the suspect struck a family who was out for a walk. The suspect then exited the vehicle and fired numerous shots at the members of the family. A bystander who attempted to help was also attacked and suffered serious injuries.
Tragically, a young child was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman remain hospitalized in stable condition. A 72-year-old woman remains in critical condition.
At this time, investigators have every reason to believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
