making waves in the Tejano music industry.

SAN ANTONIO, TX– The 33rd Annual Tejano Music Awards held at the Lila Cockrell Theater on October 19th, proved to be a big night for Tejano newcomer Ricky Valenz. Valenz, who won last year’s “Best New Artist Male-2012” walked away with two awards, including “Male Vocalist of the Year”, making Valenz the first male artist to win “Best New Artist Male” and “Male Vocalist” back to back.
In addition to winning “Male Vocalist of the Year” Valenz also received “Vocal Duo of the Year” for “Por El Amor De Una Mujer”, a duet with fellow Midwest Tejano artist Lupe Moreno of Tejano Sound Band. Valenz, the first non-Texas native to win “Male Vocalist of the Year” speaks fondly of his Midwest roots and hopes this win will encourage other artists around the nation to continue to pursue and support Tejano music.
Of the wins, Valenz says “This humbling experience has pushed me to strive to go even further in the years to come”. Valenz continues to stand by his motto: “When you think it, it is a dream. When you speak it, it becomes possible. But when you schedule it, it becomes real”.
Valenz relocated from his hometown of Lansing, MI to San Antonio,TX in late 2011. Proving hard work and determination pays off, he was named Tejano Music Awards “Best New Male Artist 2012” within the first year. The following year “Male Vocalist of the Year” and “Vocal Duo Of The Year”.
