LANSING, MI — The Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World, Silver Leaf Lodge #534/ Capitol City Temple #308, 5334 S. Martin Luther King Blvd. Lansing, Michigan traveled to Pontiac, Michigan for their Annual Michigan State Association Elks Convention, June 14, 2005-June 19, 2005.
They took with them, Stanley E. Johnson Jr., a recent from J.W. Sexton High School to compete in a oratorical contest. He gave a very strong and interesting speech subjected. "GOING FROM GOOD TO GREAT". He received 2nd place honors. Stanley’s parents are Emma and Michael Williams.
Their representative for the Beauty & Talent Pageant was Kendra Woodward, a recent graduate from Waverly High School. Kendra gave a sensational acapella performance. Along with her poise and charm, she delighted the audience along with the judges which enabled her to get 1st place honors and the title of "MISS I.B.P.O. ELK OF MICHIGAN 2005". Kendra was also selected "MISS CONGENIALITY". Kendra will travel to New Orleans, LA to compete in the Elks National Convention Pageant for the title of "MISS I.B.P.O. ELK OF THE WORLD 2005". The pageant will be on Monday August 1st 2005. Kendra’s parents are Gladys Woodward, Will Woodward and Tony Howard.
