    Flint, MI native Murdock Jemerson is Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation for Lansing. Jemerson is also a member of 
several key organizations, including Michigan Recreation and Park  Association, Capital City African American Cultural Association, and  National Recreation and Park Association.

      Jemerson started in the field of recreation in the 6th grade as
a member of the Flint YMCA Youth Volunteer Program. While there he  supervised the youth game room and gym programs. In the 11th grade, Jemerson began earning pay for his duties as a summer youth day  camp counselor.
      During the summers from the 12th grade throughout his graduate year of college, from 1969 to 1974 -  Jemerson worked at the Flint YMCA resident camp, Camp Copneconic, as a Counselor and Primative  Unit Director where he developed his love for the out of doors.
      After graduation, he worked full-time for the northside Flint YMCA as an Outreach Worker. The area was 90% African-American.   Jemerson worked this position for only four months before being hired by the City of Flint as a Community Center Director. He worked that job for 9 years and became the Director of Flint’s Department of Parks and Recreation in 1984.
     He is also Chairman of the “Citizens Committee for Michigan State Parks”.  In this position, he along with 16 other members provide the Director and the Natural Resources Commission with recommendations on how to improve Michigan State’s  Park system.
      Jemerson has worked tirelessly as the Director of Lansing Parks and Recreation since 2000. He is married and has five children.
