Mother Flippin’: One Funny Mother – The New Year is pounding on the front door.

By Tashmica Torok

Many of us hear the knocking and we dive for under the couch.  I fling the door wide and leave it open.  I love new opportunities.  I love new fresh breath.  I want it to swirl up inside my home and blow the unwanted out through the back door.

We all have some leftover unwanted from this year.

It is a time for reflection.  It is.  Some may scoff and say, it’s just another day.  Or the pessimist might say resolutions fail.  I say, ideas do die without action.  The order of the day is lists checked twice.  Santa had a fail proof plan.

I have created my list.  I have started it.  It is very long and yet surprisingly short.  When I quickly rattled off my priorities, plans for this year were forgotten without a thought.  When you decide your priorities, by default you decide what things are to be left behind.

I continued onward and left those things in the past.  Already, things in the past for 2012 and it is not even here yet!

My family will not be left behind.  I will continue to learn who God is.  I am a seeker.  My career will find more boundaries and my community will be given more service.  I will continue to develop my writing and follow my gift down an exhilarating path.

I have bullet points and timelines ready.  I have been the pessimist.  I have given in to distractions in the past.  I have given up on dreams to easily.  I find myself relieved by the prospect of being able to start over whenever I want.  It is that perspective that keeps me moving all year round.

You are the only one who can decide whether or not you are worth a do over.  You are the only one who can sit quietly and reflect on what you truly want.  You are the only one who knows what sacrifices you are willing to make.  Weigh, measure, decide and plan to not miss the opportunity again.

Fling wide that door!
