LANSING, MI — The Capital City African American Cultural Association (CCAACA) today announced that the 2011 Parade and Family Heritage Festival will be postphoned due to the challenges of the economy and the unexpected rising costs of holding the annual event. The Parade and Festival summertime event, which began in 2000 to celebrate the African American presence and the rich diversity in mid-Michigan, features marching bands, floats, food, vendors, and music in dowtown Lansing.
“Our event has been about providing postive images and a funtime for our children, youth, and families in the Lansing community,” said Rev. Dr. Michael C. Murphy, the CCAACA chairperson. “This was a difficult
decision to make given that so many in mid-Michigan look forward to coming out every summer to this unique and uplifting parade and festival. Our Association has already began discussions and plans to hold the parade and festival in 2012.”
The Capital City African American Cultural Association is encouraging the community to support organizations like the Black Child and Family Institute and the Food Bank during these challenging economic times.
The 2012 African American Parade and Festival rescheduled date will be held on August 4, 2012 in downtown Lansing. For more information go to www.ccaaca.org
