News Spotlight: Female Eastern High School Wrestler Advanced to State

LANSING, MI — Eastern High School freshman Olivia De La Cruz, 15, punched her ticket to the Michigan High School State Wrestling Tournament to be held at Ford Field in Detroit on March 3-4. Her appearance marks the sixth year in a row Lansing Eastern High wrestling has advanced to State. Olivia is the only wrestler from the team to advance. Olivia has an 11-6 record and competes in the 110-pound weight class.

“She is really doing her thing this year and we are really proud of her. Most of her matches this year were against boys,” said Arnold Pulliam, Lansing Eastern Head Wrestling Coach. “Right now she is walking on air. She has been with the Eastern program for two years. She started in eighth grade. She wrestled a lot of tough competition with a lot of them with 20 plus wins and she beat them.”

She finished 3rd in the Heartland Blue Regional Division recently to qualify for State. Olivia is coached by Lansing Eastern Head Coach Arnold Pulliam and Coach Dr. Jeff Savage.
