News Spotlight: Fenner Nature Center Celebrates the Arrival of SPRING, With the 2011 Maple Syrup Festival!

The sweetest time of year is coming, when the sap begins to flow, and Fenner offers it’s Maple Syrup Festival!   The celebration of spring and syrup takes place at Fenner Nature Center, March 19 and 20, Saturday and Sunday, 11 – 4.  It a fun and educational family adventure!
 
New for ’11:
*Tap a tree- children’s activity. They won’t just watch how it’s done, they’ll actually tap a tree themselves!
 
*Maple sugar and candy making demos throughout the weekend.
 
*Visitors can buy a kit to make maple syrup at home, from their own maple tree!
 
*Storytelling and Voyageur demonstrations- Guests will hear great stories about maple sugar making and other early spring activities, and learn from friends at the Michigan Historical Museum about how the French and Indians worked together for centuries. They’ll learn about trade items, how goods were moved around in birch bark canoes, and how the Hatter in “Alice in Wonderland” actually became mad!
 
*Outstanding crafts displays with new and returning MICHIGAN artisans, nature photography, pottery, native American flutes, bluebird boxes, and more!
 There will also be the regular great festival features:
            *Sugarbush sap boiling demo “out in the woods”
            *Winter bird and tree identification walks
*Used book and CD sale
*Tasty food items: maple syrup sundaes, cookies, hot beverages, and more!
*Always Popular: Face Painting for Kids
*The Fenner Explore Store will be open throughout the festival.
*And the best local MID-MICHIGAN MADE maple syrup-stock up opportunity!
