News Spotlight: Fire in Lansing Displaces 20 Families

Lansing Fire Department is still working at determining a cause for last nights apartment fire in the 3900 block of Burneway. Approximately 20 people were left homeless after the fire destroyed one unit severely, damaged another and caused damage to adjoining others. Some residents are being allowed to move back in today.

We are well into the holiday season and the Lansing Fire Department asks that families and individuals take a moment, sit at your kitchen table and look around your home today and imagine that if all you own was reduced to ashes and ruble, what would you do to pick up and move on?

Eric Weber from the Lansing Fire Department said, “Today some are having to do that very thing! Just on Monday a life was lost in Lansing Township due to a fire. Remember our possesions can be replaced but ones life cannot be replaced! Get out and stay out if you have a fire.”

He also said to think of the Red Cross  as they assist the victims of our fires. They need support! If you rent, please look into renters insurance to protect your belongings.

Eric Weber said, “If you live in a multi-family building and you can hear a smoke detector battery chirp, give that person a Christmas gift of a battery to replace the one that is bad. Lets look after one another this season to make it a great Holiday for all to enjoy! This message brought to you from your Lansing firefighters, always ready, always there! Happy holidays.”
