News Spotlight: Former Michigan Governor Granholm Tells Us Her Plans for the Future

Dear Friends:

Today Dan and I are very pleased to be able to share with you the plans we have put in place for the year ahead. It’s going to be a very exciting year, devoted to a portfolio of projects that includes writing, teaching and public speaking on issues about which we are passionate, including clean energy and leadership. Our time will be divided between Michigan, Washington, D.C. and California, working on an agenda that includes the following:

Dan and I are co-authoring a book on my experiences governing the toughest state in the country from 2003 on, through the 2008 economic meltdown, auto bankruptcies and the aftermath.I strongly believe that Michigan’s experience holds lessons for the nation.  The book will be published by PublicAffairs in September.  www.publicaffairsbooks.com

Dan and I have both received academic appointments to teach courses on energy, leadership, politics and the economy at my alma mater, the University of California-Berkeley, in the schools of law, business and public policy.I’ll teach my first seminar there this spring; the appointments are for two years. We are looking forward to being near my parents in the Bay Area.

We have joined the Keppler Speakers Bureau, a company in the Washington D.C. area focused on speakers who have lived moving, inspirational, and influential lives; who have cutting-edge ideas and groundbreaking experience from adapting to an ever-changing political, social, and economic landscape to charting the future in technology, business, healthcare, and the environment.  www.kepplerspeakers.com

We’re evaluating offers from corporate boards and nonprofits; more on that at a later date.

I will be a regular contributor to NBC’s “Meet the Press” with David Gregory.

We’re looking forward to sharing the Michigan experience with audiences across the country and in the university classroom. We also are looking forward to spending more time with my parents, who will enjoy the comfort of having us close by after 12 years in public life that afforded us little opportunity to be together.

Your friendship and support has meant so much to us over the years and while we’ll be moving around a bit, we want to keep in touch. We’ll always have a home base here in Michigan and, of course, we’ll be using Facebook, Twitter and our websites to stay connected. We hope you will do the same.

Here’s to opening new chapters!
