LANSING, MI — The New Citizens Press (TNCP) newspaper is celebrating its 10 year anniversary at the Creole Gallery located at 1218 Turner Street on Saturday, February 19. There will be live entertainment and an awards ceremony. Doors open at 6:00 pm for networking and dinner. The entertainment will begin at 7:00 pm.
TNCP has been collaborating with the Creole Gallery for 10 years and more recently, they have partnered with Darren Duncan, CEO of NuVision Entertainment, who is producing the performance.
A portion of the funds raised at this event will go to purchase thesauruses and dictionaries. President and Publisher, Rina Risper will be launching the “Read to Succeed & Write Ignite” program under the State of Our Health: Through the Voice of Our People banner. She will be speaking to students and giving them an opportunity to expand their vocabulary. New paperback college dictionaries and thesauruses will be accepted.

TNCP’s 2011 “Staying the Course” Award will be presented by TNCP colleague, Tashmica Torok. The recipients are Addie Jackson, who is a breast cancer survivor and Phyllis Palmer, who is a recovering drug addict, who has turned her life around.
Rina Risper said, “This is an amazing time for us. We want this event to be about the community that we serve. It is not to showcase what TNCP has done but to give others an opportunity to be showcased. That’s what we do in the paper as well. We will be celebrating all year!”
