News Spotlight: Lansing Woman Shot

On March 10, 2016 at approximately 8:30 pm, Lansing Police responded to the 800 blk of Cawood near Oakland on a report that a woman had been shot.  Officers located and attended to a 23 yr old Lansing woman who sustained a gunshot wound to her midsection.  Lansing Fire responded and transported the woman to an area hospital where she was treated and remains in non-life threatening condition.

The woman reported being out for a walk when approached by three black men in their 20’s.  She reported they attempted to rob her of her phone and when walking away was shot by one of them.  The men were described as wearing dark clothing, to include one having black pants with a gray hooded shirt.  Another subject was described as having long hair, possibly dreadlocks.  The men fled after the shooting.  We have no information on a vehicle being involved.

The woman returned to the residence she was staying and friends called for emergency services to respond.

Officers conducted interviews and gathered potential evidence from the scene. We have nothing further to report at this time.  Det. Joel Johnson has been assigned and welcomes information that may help further this investigation.  He can be reached at (517)483-4484 or Joel.johnson@lansingmi.gov
