News Spotlight: Man Who Stole Ambulance From Sparrow Charged

On October 20, 2020 at  5:45 p.m. Lansing Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of E. Michigan (Sparrow Hospital) in regard to a stolen vehicle complaint.
 
Upon arrival Lansing Police Department (LPD) officers made contact with the Lansing Fire Department and were informed that an ambulance was taken from the hospital emergency bay parking area.
 
Officers spoke with witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage during on scene investigation.  Suspect information, ambulance description and direction of travel were given to assisting officers.  Within a short time period the stolen ambulance was located traveling on S. Pennsylvania Ave. near I-96 ramps.
LPD Officers preformed a traffic stop on the ambulance and made contact with the driver (suspect).
 
The suspect, 50 year old, Jonas Encarnacion from Lansing was taken into custody without incident.
 
No one was hurt during the incident and no damage occurred during the incident
The ambulance was returned to the Lansing Fire Department.
 
A formal criminal charge of Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile (UDAA)
was issued on the arrested suspect by the Ingham County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
 
The suspect was arraigned in 54-A District court in front of Magistrate Millmore.
