On March 8, 2014 at approximately 6:40 p.m. Lansing Police were dispatched to the Life O’Riley trailer park (6700 block of S. Washington) in regard to a larceny (property being stolen). Upon arrival Officers located and spoke with several individuals (victims) who indicated they had property taken without permission given. Each victim stated they were approached by two female subjects (suspects) who indicated they were a part of an organization there to help clean up and relocate tenants. The victims stated the two suspects began to take metal items from various homes as well as from the yard areas. The suspects often would load multiple items from residences without making any prior contact. All victims of the trailer park gave detailed description of the two suspects as well as the truck they were using to carry the items away. Officers ultimately obtained all victims statements and witness information and completed a detailed report and passed it along to the case Detective.
On March 9, 2014 at approximately 7:25 p.m. Lansing Police were dispatched on a return call to the Life O’Riley trailer park. Responding Officers were advised the two suspects from the previous day had returned and were being detained by residences/victims. Upon Officer Arrival two female subjects/suspects were contacted, identified, and interviewed. Officer’s on scene investigation concluded and determined no arrest would be made. Additional investigation and continued follow up investigation related to the crime will be needed by the case Detective.
Lansing Police Detective Matt Krumbach was assigned the above case and conducted a thorough and complete investigation. The investigation revealed the two suspects described above were responsible for multiple thefts from various victims within the Life O’Riley trailer park. On several occasions the suspects mislead victims to believe they were part of an organization attempting to help the residences while they were facing hardship. Detective Krumbach submitted his detailed investigative report concerning this crime to the Ingham County Prosecutors office for review and charge request.
On Monday, April 1, 2014 charges were filed on the two Lansing female suspects on multiple counts. On April 2, 2014, both suspects were arraigned in 54-A District Court in front of Judge DeLuca on the following charges:
Nancy Carol Whitby, 55
CHARGE:
Count 1: Attempted Larceny in a Building (High court Misdemeanor)
Count 2: Larceny – Less than $200. (Misdemeanor)
BOND: $2,500. (10%)
Catherline Jackson, 60
CHARGE:
Count 1: Attempted Larceny in a Building (High court Misdemeanor)
Count 2: Larceny – Less than $200. (Misdemeanor)
BOND: $2,000. (10%)
Both Whitby and Jackson have the following hearing scheduled in 54-A District court in front of Judge Cherry:
Pre-Exam Conference: Monday, 4/7/14 @ 2:00 p.m.
Preliminary Hearing: Thursday, 4/10/14 @ 1:30 p.m.
