Excuse me, are you listening? 10-4

Dear Readers,

I am hoping that you are concentrating on what you do best and not judging others for what you believe they should be doing better.  Have you ever noticed that people who are always upset and negative are always complaining and not trying to find solutions?  It is always interesting when people begin to attack because they feel as though you need to agree with everything they say.  I think that instead of being frustrated, you should smile.  The only thing you can do is change the way you feel.

Ask Tamara:Facebook Breakup

Dear Tamara:

My boyfriend and I recently had a heated argument. I was sure that after a few days things would cool off and we would go back to normal, like we always do. That was until a mutual friend told me that my boyfriend had changed his relationship status on Facebook. When I went to check, I found that he had “unfriended” me and completely blocked me from his page! Not only was I furious, I was embarrassed.

We have a ton of mutual friends and he is friends with several members of my family. Needless to say, I have been getting a ton of phone calls and text messages from people wanting to know what’s going on and if I’m okay. I am not sure what to tell people; especially since I didn’t know that we had broken up. I hate that he put our business on blast. How should I respond to this? Should I change my relationship status as well?

Unfriended

Your Other 8 Hours: Greed is Good: Why You Need to Tap Into Your Inner Gordon Gekko

By Robert Pagliarini,
Tribune Media Services

Greed is good. Embrace it. Love it. Live it. In fact, greed may be the one thing that can save us.

Don’t believe me? Greed was the foundation for this country. The brave souls who risked their lives to settle in a new country did so out of self-interest. Our forefathers recognized the importance of self-interest in the Declaration of Independence, emphasizing our unalienable right to pursue happiness.

WASHINGTON, D.C.–Rolanda Wade works as restorative aide and certified nursing assistant. To her patients, she is everything.

“A lot of them can’t get dressed by themselves. They can’t wash themselves,” said Wade, who has been on the job 17 years. “Some of them can’t even feed themselves. We have to brush their teeth, do their hair, pick out their clothes for the day.”

The pay is low and injuries are common, but nursing care is a rare bright spot in the gloomy economic landscape, adding jobs at a steady clip. As the field has grown, so, too, have efforts to unionize.

Those unionization campaigns are being fought on a shifting battleground, from massive chains to private homes. With boomers moving into retirement, the tensions aren’t likely to abate any time soon.

Exercise and Pregnancy: Is it Safe?

By Karla Robinson, MD

Pregnancy is generally a time when a woman will experience many changes, both emotionally and physically.  With the growing waistline and extra pounds that come along with a healthy pregnancy, many women experience anxiety about how to keep the weight gain reasonable and prevent the postpartum weight loss struggle after the baby arrives.

Previously, women were often advised that it was safest to avoid any type of exercise during pregnancy.   This recommendation has undoubtedly played a role in the rise in the rates of obesity in this country.  The African American community is particularly at risk, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 4 out of every 5 African American women are overweight or obese.

THE U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS: AMERICA’S CARIBBEAN

By Vanessa Loy

(BPRW) — The United States Virgin Islands is nicknamed “America’s Caribbean” for good reason. This group of islands is located in the heart of the Caribbean Sea, not far from Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands. Because the U.S. Virgin Islands are a U.S. territory, U.S. citizens may travel through the islands without a passport as they would travel through any state.
