DETROIT, MI — When you’re dealing with near automotive perfection, improvement comes in inches, ounces and tenths of a second. So it is with the venerable Porsche 911.

Although the 911 first appeared in 1964 as a 1965 model, don’t let the “venerable” fool you. The 911 is an icon in the sports car world. It is based on an engineering pedigree that is only matched by the most expensive of car brands.

And while Porsche has expanded its nameplate offerings, it has also expanded the trim lines offered on the 911 which picked up the Carrera moniker in 1973. There are more than 20 different trim levels of the 911today.

I have spent so much time in my life avoiding horrible memories. My mind never seems to shut off and sometimes, when it goes back too far or too deep, I want to open my skull and just set my brain next to me to buzz and whir. I will just sit numb and empty for awhile. Just for awhile. Then I will put it back because there’s good stuff in there too.

I can distract myself. I can drink wine to make my thinking slow. I can ignore the thoughts. I can pick a new thought to ponder instead. I can fill my calendar to the edges. I can do all of these things for the rest of my life.

I am exhausted.

Dear Readers,

It is a very interesting time. I become very concerned when people say, “They are taking the Christ out of Christmas”. Who is “they”? When I see statements like that and how many people believe that I am kind of confused. Who is waging this new world religious psychological warfare? No one can take the Christ out of my Christmas. How does one believe that “they” are in control of what “you” believe? Sounds, tricky to me. When I see Christians being mean about it and using aggressive language, in my humble opinion, those types of statements do nothing for peace, joy and happiness on earth. Behaving badly over saying “Happy Holidays” is not very Christ-like. We live in an amazing world with so many different people and we should embrace who we are and respect who they are.

Shortly after my divorce I began dating a man of another race. When I told my best friend about the relationship, she freaked out and didn’t hold back her disapproval about man that I was seeing and the fact that he is white. Since then our friendship has changed. We have been best friends for over 20 years and often talked on the phone two to three times a day. Since I told her about my new relationship, we barely talk once a week. And when we do, I am usually the one to call and our conversation has been strained. I don’t want to lose my best friend, and cannot imagine my life without her. I can’t believe she is acting like this. I want to save the friendship, but at the same time, I do not want to end my new relationship. Things are getting pretty serious and I want to see where things go. What should I do?
