My last column looked at rising Medicare premiums for the most affluent seniors under the new health care reform law.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) boosts the income-threshold premiums for individuals with $85,000 or more in annual income, and joint tax filers with income over $170,000. The surcharges apply to Medicare Part B and D, and also impact seniors enrolled in Medicare Advantage.

Poetry in the City is an annual event that showcases a number of locally and nationally recognized poets. A NuPoet Collective and The New Citizens Press’ brainchild, the series is being organized in conjunction with the Lansing Jaycees.

Dear Readers,

During the year, I visit plenty of students. 2011 has been especially important to me. Personally, I love people and I want to know what “the little people” (anyone still in school and under the age of 18) are thinking. It is very difficult to talk to your own children because they are not giving you the whole story. However, when you talk to other children, they seem to be so impressed that you at least care enough to ask about them

DETROIT, MI – I test drove a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4 over a weekend and I was really impressed by what it didn’t have.

There were no leather seats. They weren’t heated or cooled either. There was no navigation system, no sun roof and no Bluetooth. What I had was what seemed to be a base model Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo without a lot of equipment. And that’s what I found impressive.
