Plain Talk 7-2

By Frank Risper

As the saying goes, “The whole world loves  a winner.”

So my question to you is, “Who is a winner?”

Are people like Michael Jordon or Magic Johnson winners?  They were two professional basketball players who have led their teams to multiple world championships.  In your estimation, are they considered your ideal example of winners?

What about Tiger Woods?  Is he a winner because he can handle a golf course like he built them himself?  Maybe it’s someone like Nelson Mandela.  Does he fit the bill of a winner to you?

What do the people I mentioned above have in common?  Explore some of the character traits they have in common.  They’ll help us understand what drives some people to do great things in life.

I believe that each individual mentioned above had something to overcome while on the path to greatness.
Quite possibly there was a problem with self-confidence during their adolescent years and eventually they conquered their own doubt.

Maybe it was the fear of failure that gripped their everyday existence while learning a new technique.   One of them may have learned to be a winner.

Do you think you can learn to be a winner?  Do you think it’s easy for a professional basketball player not to blame others when the game didn’t go their way?

Do you pass judgment on the players who break down or  have tantrums on the court? Perhaps it’s a learning process to change an attitude.  Have you really looked in the mirror at your own behavior recently?

Can you learn to be a winner or is that something people are only born with?  Do you have a God given talent or do you have to put the time and work into being successful?  Do you have the persistence to learn and be number one?  What about wisdom and knowledge?  Do you think the individuals mentioned in this article were all born with a vision?
They took what they had and worked hard.  They took their vision and fine tuned it with hard work and dedication to their individual craft.  They made their visions and dreams into reality.

I’m not suggesting that to be a winner in life you have to be a world-class athlete or a world leader.  I believe that anyone can be a winner if you’re willing to put your trust in God.

I want to be very clear that everything starts with God.  As a matter a fact, in my opinion it all ends with God too.

Some one is looking at you as a winner.  It may be your mother or your father.  It may be your husband or your wife.  It may be your children or your friends that look up to you.  In their eyes you’re a winner.

How are you showing your winning spirit to the world?  I’m giving you just a little something to think about.  I hope you know that if you’re trying hard and doing your best that you’re a winner.

Remember to keep the faith, trust in God and seek after a pure heart.  God will be pleased.
