LANSING, MI — The rain was not to hamper the creativity of poets on the Capitol steps.  Poets  and poetry lovers of all backgrounds and ages stood in the downpour of  rain to listen to spoken word.  The 7th Annual Poetry in the City program brought over 110 people who trickled in and out while waiting for a chance to be on stage.  Thirty people were able to perform in a two hour period.

Rosemarie “One Single Rose” Wilson who hails from Detroit, MI  kept the audience mesmerized with her sultry singing voice that was laced with poetry.  She performed a piece about the revival of Detroit and how proud she is to be a resident.  Shaton Andrews is a regular songtress at Poetry in the City and at the end of each annual event, she sings a song in honor of those who died due to violence and unnecessary crimes.

The crowd was also surprised by a visit from Atlanta poet, DeMarco Holt, Sr. and his wife, Natasha Holt.  DeMarco is the author of “Captured By Inspirational Moments of Expressions”.  He sold out while he was in Michigan.

Holt said, “This was an amazing opportunity for me to get my poetry noticed.  Why not come to Michigan?  I hear the poets here are doing some really creative things.  Just look around at the people who came out to support.”

The next Poetry in the City event, will be on July 18, 2013.
