The Foundation
After serving 20 years in the Air Force, Waller learned about resilience and dedication. She said the importance of service became an ingrained value that guided the next phase of her journey. Her commitment was followed by two years with AmeriCorps, which focused on community-based initiatives aimed at uplifting and empowering local communities.
Reflecting on those formative years, Waller has often stated, “Service has always been the compass that directed my path, leading me to understand that meaningful change starts from within the community.”
These experiences laid the foundation for her role as the Founder and CEO of Garden of Hope. The National Impact Award acknowledges the collective efforts of Garden of Hope, which has provided impactful a strong focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education and agricultural programs. The organization’s programs range from teaching the importance of self-sufficiency through gardening to equipping students with essential STEAM skills.
Waller said, “Our mission is about nurturing the next generation and fostering a legacy of growth and resilience. This award is a testament to that commitment, symbolizing the strides Garden of Hope has made and the hope that these efforts will inspire continued progress and development in communities for years to come.”
