Detroit, MI – The original Black Tie, Blue Carpet event recognizing talented independent filmmakers is back! They are celebrating the 6th year of this Hollywood style award show dedicated to the talented teams behind many high quality, low-budget films!
“I See You Awards®” fill a niche and create a platform for recognizing independent filmmakers that is currently missing in mainstream Hollywood. Whether you’re in the scene or behind the scenes they probably have a category to honor your role in the filmmaking process.
Many of us never stop and think about what goes on behind the scenes of our favorite films. We watch with anticipation of simply being entertained for a couple of hours at best. But consider this, from the time the script begins being written to the time you actually get to view the film could be years. Many projects take months to edit after the filming is complete.
We recently had the opportunity to sneak behind the scenes and learn more about the creator of the I See You Awards.
Terri Lee Chandler is the film critic for WWJ Newsradio 950, Detroit’s only all-news radio station. Terri’s movie reviews can be heard every Friday at 12:20 pm. EST during WWJ’s Midday Show.
“Terri is a member of several professional associations, including the prestigious Critics Choice Association, the largest film critics group in the United States and Canada, which produces the annual Critics Choice Awards. She is also a member of the African-American Film Critics Association, SAG-AFTRA, and the National Association of Black Journalists.” cited from ISEEYOUAWARDS.COM
After years of trying to bring her own first feature film to the big screen, multiple award-winning journalist and movie critic Terri Lee combined the knowledge that came with her years of reviewing films for all of the major Hollywood studios with the idea to create a platform for small film teams to be honored.
Terri noticed that there was an opportunity for the recognition and celebration of low-budget independent filmmakers. She expressed that they needed and deserved to see their efforts, sacrifices, struggles and dedication acknowledged and rewarded. That inspired her to create the I See You Awards.
Terri is also an independent filmmaker herself, so she knows firsthand the challenges that independent filmmakers face as they work to bring their projects to the big screen. This event brings a taste of Hollywood’s celebration style locally to the Imagine Theatre in Royal Oak.
