LANSING, MI — Aaliyah Buell was challenged in the 7th grade as a student at Pleasantview Middle School to create a rap for a talent show. That opportunity planted a seed and today she still puts pen to paper to express herself.
Buell’s English teacher in middle school, Mrs. Annette Shauver, noticed that she had the potential to be a great writer. Shauver pulled her aside and began to nurture her gift for combining words and performance.
Buell said, “I have always loved to write but Mrs. Shauver is a mentor who always encourages me to remain passionately involved with writing.”
Now in the 11th grade, Buell is still writing poetry and rapping. She mentioned that she would like to start recording soon.
In 2005, Rosemarie Wilson embraced the pen name “One Single Rose” as given to her by a very dear friend. One Single Rose does not solely speak as to a relationship status; One Single Rose tells tales of a woman who began taking care of herself at the age of 16. She began following her passion for poetry as a woman scorned on the pages of her first poetry collection which turned her pen into a siren and a sword. One Single Rose motivated herself past the pain of heartache into a realm where she released other societal ills from her spirit. Once she experienced the power of the word firsthand,
One Single Rose began to write more poems focusing on inspiration, building self-confidence and self-esteem. She also penned poetry in support of various causes that she wholeheartedly supports such as domestic violence/cancer awareness, sexual abuse, bullying, women’s issues, religion, romance, politics and eroticism. Although it took One Single Rose 1 ½ years after the release of her first poetry collection to shed fears of sharing her poetry with live audiences, once she followed the path that poetry set, it was as if the world opened for her to share her gift. She has since become an award winning poet, spoken word artist, singer, actress and playwright who performs worldwide.
One Single Rose welcomes more opportunities to share her experiences as she watches One Single Roses Bloom through spoken word, song, stage productions and workshop series’ which tackle life lessons celebrating love with laughter.
