The Great Pumpkin Walk in East Lansing is Set: The Wild Goose Inn Bed and Breakfast Will Be Transformed into the Land of Oz

EAST LANSING, MI — The Great Pumpkin is coming to downtown East Lansing on Sunday, October 27 from 1-4 p.m.!

As part of this year’s annual Great Pumpkin Walk, a 26-foot-tall inflatable pumpkin will take over Ann Street Plaza on the corner of M.A.C. and Albert avenues.

Community members are invited to bring their favorite trick-or-treaters to the area for the family-friendly event. Over 30 downtown businesses will serve as trick-or-treating stations this year. Attendees will have opportunities for photos with superheroes and princesses from Royal Encounters MSU as well as the Great Pumpkin at Ann Street Plaza.

Albert Avenue between Grove Street and M.A.C. Avenue will be closed for a juggler and stilt walker during the three-hour event. The East Lansing Police Department and East Lansing Fire Department will also be set up in this area to give children and their families a chance to meet with first responders and interact with their emergency vehicles.

Free pumpkins will be available while supplies last during the Great Pumpkin Walk, and there will be two pumpkin decorating stations in the downtown. One station will be located at William B. Sharp Park on the corner of Abbot Road and Albert Avenue. The other decorating station will be located in the 500-block pedestrian alleyway on the other end of the downtown area near Bailey Street.

Nearby, the Wild Goose Inn Bed and Breakfast at 512 Albert Ave. will transform once again into the Land of Oz from 2-4 p.m. This is the 13th year that this local business has created magic for the community. They also will offer candy for trick-or-treaters during the event.

The East Lansing Farmers Market (ELFM), 280 Valley Court Park, will kick off the Halloween fun with a costume and cosplay contest. Participants must register at the ELFM information booth by 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27. Costume and cosplay contest winners will be announced at 1:30 p.m. and must be present to collect their prize. The ELFM runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sundays from June through the end of October. This Sunday is the last market of the 2024 season.

On Tuesday, Oct. 29, Michigan State University’s Fraternity and Sorority Life will host its annual Safe Halloween event from 5-7 p.m. This event includes trick-or-treating at fraternity and sorority houses on M.A.C. Avenue, which will be closed to through-traffic between Burcham Drive and Linden Street from 3-9 p.m.

Trick-or-treating in local neighborhoods will take place on Halloween (Thursday, Oct. 31) from 6-8 p.m.
