The Royalaires Still Performing After 43 Years

LANSING, MI –  Joe Lane is one of the original members of the Royalaires gospel singers.   The group started over 43 years ago,  at Joe’s cousin’s, Tommy Lane’s, house on W.  Main Street.  In the basement, they organized and selected the songs and most of the time ended up agreeing on what to sing.

Joe believes that the ability of the group to work together is one of the main reasons why they are still together.  Even though members have come and gone the group still performs every year for one dynamic weekend.  Included in that weekend they invite other groups to be a part of their historic annual celebration.

“Even though Tommy is not here the group has not changed much.  We just try to include all types of gospel music. We want to reach to the general public and invite those who have not had the experience of gospel to come and see what it is about,” said Joe.

The nationally known group has performed in venues in New York, Alabama, Washington D.C., Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama and other numerous states.  They have received accolades from many of their attendees and pastors who graciously invite them to share their music in their churches.

This year they will be performing on October 17, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.  at Shiloah Baptist Church, located at 5225 S. Waverly Road.  Their second performance will be on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. located at Faith United Methodist Church located at 4301 S. Waverly Road.

Visiting groups will include The King Brothers from Benton Harbor, The True Vine Singers from Flint and The Elkhart Jubilees from Elkhart, IN.
