TNCPCAN Advancing Healthy Births Resource Guide: Car Seats and Booster Seats – Illustration Inside

According to the Centers for Disease Control, motor vehicle injuries are a leading cause of death among children in the U.S., but many of these deaths can be prevented. To reduce the risk of serious injury and death, they recommend properly buckling children in car seats, booster seats, or seat belts appropriate for their age and size. Follow these steps to choose the right car seat or booster seat, install it correctly, and know when it’s safe for your kid to transition to a seat belt.

All children younger than 13 years old should be restrained in the rear seat of the vehicles, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Rina Risper, Executive Director of The New Citizens Press Community Action Network, said, “Information about birthing and children should always be discussed when allowing your child to stay with someone else like an aunt or grandparent who may not be aware of the weight or height limit for a child who is under 4’9”  tall at 8-12 years old.
