Visit your local library and see what they have available for you and your family for the holidays. Curl up with a good book!

The New Year marks a period of reflection on both the past and the future. Many of us make resolutions and take them very seriously. Others are more light-hearted in their approach. Either way, here are some suggestions for books you’ll find at Capital Area District Libraries that can help you on your journey to self-improvement.
Want to spend more (preferably, quality) time with family and friends? Have relationships you want to improve?
o How to Love an American Man: A True Story by Kristine Gasbarre
o Don’t Roll Your Eyes: Making In-laws Into Family by Ruth Nemzoff
Does the number on the scale keep getting higher and higher? These new titles can help you tame the bulge.
o The Blood Sugar Solution: The Ultrahealthy Program for Losing Weight, Preventing Disease and Feeling Great Now! by Mark Hyman
o Lose It Fast, Lose It Forever: A 4-Step Permanent Weight Loss Plan From The Most Successful “Biggest Loser” Of All Time by Pete Thomas
Planning to enjoy life more this year? This has become a popular resolution in recent years, as it’s an important first step to health and happiness.
o This Is How: Proven Aid in Overcoming Shyness, Molestation, Fatness, Spinsterhood, Grief, Disease, Lushery, Decrepitude & More by Augusten Burroughs (Okay, the title may be off-putting, but if you survived all that Burroughs has, you have earned the right. Besides, there is a great deal of humor, compassion and unconventional wisdom here. Let’s just say, it’s not your mother’s self-help book.)
o Uncommon Manhood : Secrets to What It Means to Be a Man by Tony Dungy (with Nathan Whitaker)
Need to quit smoking? Drinking? Anything? While this resolution proves to be one of the toughest, the good news is that before any habit is kicked, the ‘kicker’ tries to kick it a least four times. Translation: don’t give up.
o Unhooked : How to Quit Anything by Frederick Woolverton and Susan Shapiro
o Quit Smoking Today-without Gaining Weight by Paul Mckenna
Now please excuse me while I get busy enjoying my family, losing some weight and kicking some habits. Good luck and Happy New Year to you and yours!
