Loving Family, Commitment to Christ, Fellowship with Friends Gregory George Wallace was born into the loving marriage of Samuel and Evelyn Wallace On August 11, 1950, in Flint, Michigan. Gregg was the youngest of two siblings; he followed his older sister Pat who distinguished herself as “Bubbling Brown Sugar” one of the Flint Area’s Most Popular DJ’s. Gregg and his sister Pat were raised in a joyful, fun-loving household where he earned the nickname “Stoney” after General Stonewall Jackson for being such a determined and stubborn little boy. Gregg accepted Christ at an early age at Macedonia Baptist Church in Flint; he was a member of Mt. Zion All Saints Church, Lansing, Michigan when he died. He was a proud graduate of Central High School in Flint, Michigan.

Prior to high school graduation, Gregg was accepted at both Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. He chose Michigan State University where he earned both his Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master of Arts Degree. Gregg was a Proud Spartan and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. where he earned his 50-year Membership Certificate. Gregg was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Gamma Tau Chapter as an undergraduate and Kappa Delta Lambda Alumni Chapter in the Greater Lansing Area. Gregg was known as one of those brothers who you could count on to have your back and to help out on community projects.
While most ceased to be involved on the Graduate Level, Gregg was a dedicated worker and organizer. Through his drive and determination, and serving as Vice President and President, he helped Kappa Delta Lambda Chapter become one of the top five contributors to the MLK Memorial. In fact, it was said that Brother Wallace lived the words of, “To be an Alpha Man means more than to wear a pin; he stated – “Ask yourself, What have I really done?” Gregg was truly one of the most dedicated supporters of Black Interests. He worked toward and was looking forward to the upcoming election of Vice President Kamala Harris to Presidency of the United States and occupancy of the White House.
Gregg was employed by the State of Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth for more than 30 years as a Minority Business Liaison. He helped Small Business Owners secure funding to help them open their business. He was an excellent public speaker and represented the Department at conferences all across the United States. He received many awards from community groups and was also recognized by the State of Michigan for his Outstanding Service provided to Small Business owners.
Legacy of Love for Family and Church
Gregg really loved his family. He also loved Church, traveling, Family Outings, spending time with his nieces and nephews. Gregg really cherished his lifelong relationships with close friends. Gregg called his childhood friends “Framily” including, but not limited to, Melvin Williams Family, Charles Dantzler Family, Willie Sanders, and Joan Hicks Family.
Family was one of the most important things in Gregg’s life. He was an Amazing father to his daughter Porcha who preceded him in death in January 2023. Gregg’s Love for his sister Pat and his niece Najia and Nephew Tabari make him eligible to be Proud Brother and Uncle of the year. The arrival of his great nephews DeAndre, Jamarcus, Donterrence, Tabari II, and Jayden just put the icing on the cake. He was so proud of them and their accomplishments. Gregg leaves to Cherish his Memory and Celebrate His Amazing Life of Service To All: His Sister Patricia Elerson, Niece Najia Elerson, Nephew Tabari Elerson, Great Nephews, DeAndre Elerson, Markus Atwell, Jamarcus Elerson Porter, Donterence Elerson-Porter, Tabari Elerson, II, and Jayden Elerson-Porter. Great Nieces LaTesha and TaShonda Robinson. Lots of loving Cousins Especially Edward Smith, Breshenda Smith, and Deborah Monegan. Dr. Jennifer Wallace-Underwood, Special Friend Dr. Tomicka N. Williams and His Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Kappa Delta Lambda Chapter Family.
Gregg is preceded in death by his Parents, Samuel and Evelyn Wallace, his Grandparents, Great Aunts and Uncles and daughter Porcha Williams.
