LANSING, MI — The award-winning documentary No Country For Old People comes to Lansing on Tuesday, August 5, for a powerful community screening and leadership conversation at Urban Beat. Hosted by High Stakes Leadership Strategist Traci Ruiz, M.Ed., the evening will spotlight the hidden failures in America’s elder care system and the urgent leadership needed to reform it. No Country For Old People
pulls back the curtain on nursing homes, long-term care facilities, and regulatory systems across the country—exposing what happens when profit is prioritized over people, oversight weakens, and families are left to navigate life-or-death situations alone.
Ruiz, a retired police officer turned High Stakes Leadership strategist, co-hosts the screening after serving as Durable Power of Attorney for Mrs. Evangelina Salinas, a 105-year-old widow whose survival depended on relentless advocacy.
“We filed complaints, showed up at meetings, followed every formal channel—but little changed,” said Ruiz. “This isn’t just about elder care. It’s about what happens when leadership disappears during a crisis. That’s the conversation we’re inviting Lansing to have.”
Who Should Attend: Healthcare professionals, caregivers, nonprofit leaders, state and local policymakers, aging service providers, first responders, and anyone who may one day be responsible for someone else’s care—or their own.
