LANSING, MI — Worship Without Words is a community based liturgical dance group made up of several different members from local area churches. The group originally began its journey as a youth African dance team called the African Masquerade Dancers. Many of those members left the state to pursue their college aspirations and career dreams. Those who stayed, wanted to stay together and continue dancing with a cause. So, they transitioned the group into Worship Without Words (WWW) in 2007.
Heather Taylor, Director of WWW, said, “I didn't think it would encompass much, we just wanted to continue dancing and benefit the community. Our objective is to deliver creative movement to the words in song. We pray our movement to the words touches the depths of ones spirit, heals a heart or soothe a soul. The presentation is purely to reach our audience.”
After performing for a couple years at local area events, WWW exploded onto the scenes of community entertainment everywhere. They presented a dance in 2012 at the East Lansing Marriott Hotel for former basketball champion and business mogul Magic Johnson's mother, Mrs. Christine Johnson’s, surprise birthday party.
With the continuous crisis the state of our world is in Taylor believes that dancing is a way to heal the hurting.
The group has serviced the Greater Lansing area since their inception and 2017 marks their 10th year anniversary.
Taylor said, “We don't just dance, we teach too. We teach the audience about the origin of our cultural, we dance and provide the meaning behind our praise dances. We've provided family worship and cultural dance edu-tainment to many organizations such as churches, festivals, Ingham County Fair, government events, weddings, seminars, conferences, etc. just to name a few. We would like to recognize several support organizations and specific women that have helped us along the way. We'd also like to raise the awareness of the need for these type of non-political, unbiased, safe groups for young women.”
Taylor is committed to recognizing these premier support people with a “W-Award” at the WWW 1st Annual Community Dance Extravaganza and will be held on Saturday, December 9th, 2017 at Everett High School Auditorium from 6-8 pm. They will be accepting a $10.00 donation.
