LANSING, MI — In many Black communities, the beauty salon has always represented far more than a place for hair appointments. It is often a place where clients find confidence, identity, and conversation. It is also a place where one’s “crown” is restored through care and cultural tradition.
Chiffon Berry, who has been a licensed cosmetologist since 1997 said, “Every client’s hair texture is different, and I believe that healthy hair begins with understanding what works best for that individual. Whether someone has natural, relaxed, thick, or thin hair, clients want to know they will be taken care of properly. Different hair textures come with all races and cultures, and I enjoy working with all hair types. Being able to care for a wide range of textures and styles is an important part of serving the community.”
At Chiffon’s Hair Suite, the tradition continues through personalized hair care rooted in professionalism, healthy hair maintenance, and years of experience. She previously owned and operated Chiffon’s Salon for 16 years before stepping away temporarily to pursue other professional opportunities. Berry knew she would return to doing hair, and she re-entered the beauty industry as Chiffon’s Hair Suite.
Hair carries meaning tied to self-expression, celebration, professionalism, and self-esteem. Whether preparing for graduation photos, a new career opportunity, a wedding, or simply reclaiming confidence after a difficult season, many clients walk into the salon carrying far more than just hair concerns. Because appointments may occur consistently over months or even years, a level of trust naturally develops.
A fresh silk press, precision cut, protective style, relaxer or color transformation can completely shift how a person feels walking into a room. The salon experience becomes part of presentation, energy, and renewal.
At Chiffon’s Hair Suite, healthy hair remains a major focus alongside styling services. The salon offers silk presses, relaxers, roller sets, flat irons, braids, precision cuts, color services, honey masque conditioning treatments, and styling for special occasions. Moisture treatments, protein restoration, and deep conditioning services also reflect an emphasis on maintaining hair strength, long-term health, and growth.
Berry said that she incorporates invigorating old-school shampoos into the salon experience. She said they reflect the kind of detailed hair care many clients remember growing up with. The shampoo service is included with every appointment and is considered part of the overall care and treatment experience rather than an added luxury.
Located at 701 W Mt. Hope Avenue, Suite 7, Lansing, MI, inside Big B’z Barbershop, Chiffon’s Hair Suite continues the longstanding tradition of neighborhood beauty culture where relationships, consistency, and reputation matter just as much as the final hairstyle. As conversations surrounding relaxers, healthy hair and texture continue evolving the salon will remain an important space. Book an appointment at glossgenius.com
