LANSING, MI – It is officially the start of the primary election with the mailing of over 22,000
ballots to Lansing City voters and Lansing City voters can also come pick up an absentee
ballot at either Lansing Elections Office or Lansing City Hall the day prior.
Located at 701 W. Jolly Rd., the Lansing Elections Office is accessible via CATA Route #9
and #5, and has free parking and a secure election drop box is now open to the public.
“The vast majority of these ballots are going to voters on the Permanent Mail Ballot list and
are enjoying that convenience,” said Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope “ They will never miss
an election again because they will be mailed a ballot for every election, as long as they are
registered to vote in Michigan. They can mail, drop off or bring their ballot with them to their
precinct or an early voting site after taking time to review it.”
Starting on Saturday, July 25 th , the Lansing Elections Office will be one of two early voting
sites for all Lansing City Voters. Each location has free parking, and a secure election drop
box. In a similar experience to Election Day, early voters can feed their own ballot into the
tabulator. Results will not be known by anyone until 8 p.m. on Election Day.

At website.lansingvotes.gov, voters can find the closest drop box, check on the status of their
absentee application, view the list of candidates and links to information about proposals, and
so much more. Lansing citizens will be voting on the Primary Election ballot including eight
proposals and nominating candidates who will go on to the General Election from the two
major parties for Governor, US Senate, US House, State Senate and State House. .
Voters must return their ballot by 8 p.m. on Election Day to be counted or can now take their
ballot to their precinct or an early voting site to be tabulated. Secure ballot boxes are located
within 1.5 miles of any Lansing resident or voters can return their ballot via mail with postage
paid and are under 24 hour surveillance and checked every day the Clerk’s Office is opened.
Voters still have until late July to request a ballot to be mailed to them, but please be aware
that the US Post Office states that it can take up to a week for mail to be delivered. If you
need us to mail your ballot to another address, please contact us at (517) 483-4131 or
city.clerk@lansingmi.gov with your temporary address at least two days before June 24 th
when ballots are sent.
If the Clerk’s Office has already mailed your ballot and you need your ballot sent to a different
(temporary) address, use the Spoil Ballot Form and return it to either
city.clerk@lansingmi.gov, a City Drop Box, or either Clerk’s Office.
