News Spotlight: Michigan resident Rosemarie Wilson Receives National Poetry Awards

After a year of planning, the National Poetry Awards (www.nationalpoetryawards.org) were held in Raleigh , North Carolina on August 21, 2010 at the Progress Energy Center .  With 20 categories of poetic designations and 78 nominees, Michigan resident Rosemarie Wilson was nominated by her peers as Underground Poet of the Year, New & Upcoming Poet of the Year and Poetry Author of the Year.  Rosemarie received two of three awards for which she was nominated—New & Upcoming Poet of the Year and Poetry Author of the Year. 
 
Wilson said, “Having received three NPA nominations was flattery in itself.  One award would’ve brightened my day and I am humbled to receive two of three!  Receipt of these awards are testament to the confidence in my poetic endeavors of those who voted.”  
 
The 2011 National Poetry Awards will be held in Dallas, Texas. Wilson performs all over Michigan.  In 2010, she performed on the steps of the State of Michigan Capitol Building to an audience of over 200.
 
In October 2010 Rosemarie’s poem from her first collection entitled “Eyes Back to Basics” won 1st Place in the Detroit Writers’ Guild 2010 Paul Laurence Dunbar Poetry Contest.  First, second and third place winners received a cash prize and Rosemarie’s winning entry will be placed in an anthology published by the Detroit Writers’ Guild. 
 
On October 30, 2010, Rosemarie participated as a panel member in the 2010 Author’s Showcase at the Carter G. Woodson Library in Chicago, Illinois. On November 26, 2010 Rosemarie will perform a poem written as a testament for her love of Detroit at Piccolo Productions’ I Love Detroit Party at the International Institute, 111 E.
