WHAT:
The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) and the Michigan
Public Health Institute (MPHI) will host the upcoming “Every Ounce
Counts – Michigan Breastfeeding Summit” as an effort to bring
business, industry, government, health and community leaders together to
better understand the critical role they have to the future of our state
and the health of our citizens by supporting breastfeeding mothers. The
goal of the summit is to build stronger partnerships, share successes
and find new opportunities by working with other leaders to devise
strategies and actions that support breastfeeding.
The event’s morning speakers are national experts on how
breastfeeding can make an impact on growth and development, chronic
disease, reduced infections and hospital visits, and reduced parental
absenteeism. Afternoon speakers will consists of a panel of businesses
who provided employee lactation services. They will be providing
information and tools on to support breastfeeding in the workplace
complying with the new Health Care Reform policy.
