CATA GIVES SAFE RIDES HOME ON NEW YEAR’S EVE
The Capital Area Transportation Authority (CATA), in cooperation with the Lansing Area Safety Council, will once again offer curb-to-curb transportation on New Year’s Eve. “CATA is committed to providing safe transportation on New Year’s Eve. The Safe Ride Home program has served the community for many years and we hope people will take advantage of this service to make it safer on the roads for all,” stated CATA’s CEO/Executive Director Sandy Draggoo. Last year, CATA gave nearly 300 rides through the Safe Ride Home program.
Those wishing a ride home should call CATA at 394.CATA (2282) between the hours of 7PM and 3AM on New Year’s Eve. Passengers will be picked up and taken home between the hours of 10PM and 4AM on a first-come, first-served basis. Safe Ride Home buses travel as far north as Sheridan Road to Dobie Road on the east, Holt Road on the south and Waverly Road on the west. Regular $1.25 CATA fares apply to this service with discounted 60¢ fares for students, seniors, anyone showing a Medicare card, and persons with disabilities.
On New Year’s Eve, CATA fixed-route buses and Spec-Tran will end service early. All fixed-routes that provide Friday evening service will make their last trips no later than 6:15 PM. For route-by-route final departure times and locations, visit CATA’s website at cata.org, email info@cata.org, or contact CATA’s Customer Service at 517.394.1000. Spec-Tran will provide rides up to 6:15 PM on New Year’s Eve.
The Spec-Tran office will remain open from 8 AM to 5 PM on New Year’s Day to schedule rides after
January 1st. The Spec-Tran phone number is 394.CATA (2282). All CATA services will resume regular schedules on Sunday, January 2nd.
