Community Resource Connection – Taxes

By Latasha A. McWright, TNCP Guest Writer

We all know the IRS Deadline to file your taxes without penalty is April 18th, 2011, & is approaching vastly.  There are many of so called “free” tax software programs out there, even companies promoting they prepare taxes for free.  I encourage you to read the small print!  In many cases, a portion is free but there are hidden fees or catches associated with the deal.  Michigan has a variety of totally, completely, absolutely FREE tax preparation services in our Community – for those who qualify. Keep every dollar of your return in your pocket!

The following sites currently have appointments available:
Michigan State University College of Business
Allen Neighborhood Center
Foster Community Center
Letts Community
Cristo Rey Community Center
Capital Area District Library
NorthWest Initiative
* All Programs of the Asset Independence Coalition

Call to schedule your appointment right away, the current wait time could be 2-4 weeks.    Please do not call the sites directly.  To schedule or get more information you must dial “211” from any landline or cell phone.

Capital Area Community Services, Inc is also offering Free Tax Preparation Services.  There is NO income limit for this program.  Please call David at 517-393-7077 for an appointment.
