Charissa suggests that you take the time and vote.
By Charissa Patterson-Martinez
You matter in this world and you have a vote to make a difference, do not squander it away by sitting idle and letting the world that you live in everyday never be graced with your voice. This would be a shame, especially since your voice is so worthy of being heard today. No one knows better than you what it is to walk a mile in your shoes. If you have grown weary of the road upon which you travel and need a new pair of walking shoes to boot, then you especially need to be a part of the process by which to make things happen. You are the primary investor to your life. Contribute to making your journey in this world a more enriching experience.
Journeys take time so you will need to be patient as the changes you were a part of making come to full fruition. Really, would it be so bad if your children were the benefactors of your vision to change your world for the better? Keep in mind the mountain of damage that have accumulated and will need to be addressed. This will take time. Remember that you play a part in how the damage is addressed.
Please remember your worth, for the sake of you brother, sister, mother, father, son, daughter and friend. You are an invaluable piece in the game. Make you move wisely. I remember the talks my father had with me about the importance of my vote. At the time, it seemed unimaginable that my solitary voice could make and impact. However, my solitary voiced joined with millions of other voices sounds like a rolling, thunderous roar for change.
Once upon a time (not too long ago) for many of our forefathers, our right to voice our need for change fell on deaf ears and legal banned us from standing up to change. I am old enough to remember stories that my grandfather, Reverend Charles J. Patterson shared with us or information that I gained eaves dropping on grown folks conversations. I believe that although we have come a long way, there is still quite a bit of road left untraveled. Be a part of history, make changes to the world we live in so that we may pass on stories of love, courage and hope to our children. Vote.
