In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, Beyonce Knowles, her mother Tina Knowles, singer Kelly Rowland and the Knowles family are donating $1,000,000 via the family’s Survivor Foundation to St. John’s Downtown and the Bread of Life. The money will go toward the development of transitional living apartments for people who are homeless as a result of personal or natural disasters.
The transitional housing development is a collaborative effort between the Knowles’, St. John’s Downtown and the Bread of Life, the non-profit agency that has addressed the homeless problem in Houston, TX over the past 13 years.
”This is truly a blessing in our attempt to add transitional living opportunities for the men, women and families that we have strived to care for over the years,” states Rudy Rasmus pastor of St. John’s downtown. ”I’ve known the Knowles family for many years and this is a true reflection of their generosity and humanitarian spirit.”
St. John’s has benefited from the Knowles’ philanthropy when they built the Knowles/Rowland Youth Center, which is the site for teen activities and worship, and was also the donation center for evacuees of the Katrina hurricane.
