Dear Friends,
As we begin a new year a number of people have asked me about celebrating the life and legacy of my Mom, Ruth Hallman. Since her murder in July, family, friends, and well wishers have contributed to the "Problem Solving Overtime Fund for LPD" in the amount of almost $10,000.
Mom’s birthday would have been January 30th and after much discussion it was decided to have the "Ruth Hallman Chili Fundraiser" to benefit neighborhoods and the Lansing Police Department as they deal with neighborhood problems in Lansing.
We are asking people to help contribute chili and other soups to the fundraiser, helping to make awareness of the event, and creating a great turn out for her birthday party. The event will be held at:
IBEW 665, 5205 S. Pennsylvania
Wednesday, January 30th, from noon to 6:30 p.m.
Suggested donation $10.00
(All funds donated to the "Problem Solving Overtime Fund for LPD")
Dayle Benjamin has spearheaded this event and I encourage you to call him at 372-1455, or email him at DayleBenjamin@aol.com for information, donations and volunteering to help.
This is a community even, this is your event, please help us to make this successful. The Lansing State Journal editorial of August 1, 2007 stated: "We must be tireless. We must be determined. We must be committed. And yes, in some matters, we will need to be fearless. Most of all, we must be devoted. The community owes Ruth Hallman nothing less."
Thank you helping to make this successful,
Carol Wood
