Trice named gospel choir director at Olivet College

OLIVET, MI —  La’Rae Trice has been named gospel choir director at Olivet College, according to an announcement from Maria Davis, Ph.D., provost and dean of the college.

Trice, of Lansing, has nine years’ experience serving as choir director for Tabernacle of David Church, with locations in Lansing and Nashville, Tenn. A former resident of Nashville, Trice holds a bachelor’s degree in music business from Belmont University, where she also served as a Bruin recruiter for the BU admissions office.

“We are thrilled to have La’Rae come and lead this talented group of students,” said Maria Davis, Ph.D., provost and dean. “The gospel choir provides students with an exceptional opportunity for community building and faith expression, while adding to the vibrancy of our campus. La’Rae’s talents, expertise and enthusiasm for this group of students make her a welcome addition to Olivet College.”

In addition to directing a successful and highly visible gospel choir on campus, Trice is responsible for working with admissions on recruitment events and activities, as well as managing the choir’s scholarship program.

Trice most recently served as producer and manager for Flow Over Productions of Lansing, where she worked with engineers, singers and musicians on various live performances and recordings. In addition, she is currently working toward a Master of Business Administration from the European School of Economics in Rome, Italy.

With strong support from President Steven M. Corey, Ph.D., the college launched a national search for a new gospel choir director earlier this semester. As part of an overall initiative to expand and enhance Olivet’s music program, the college recently announced a scholarship that supports up to full need for students interested in joining the gospel choir. The Olivet Talent Scholarship provides financial support to students who enrich the campus community through their involvement in and contributions to particular talent-based participation opportunities on campus, including music.
