City of Lansing Mayoral Candidate Marc Townsend removed from ballot by the Lansing Election Commission

LANSING, MI — The City of Lansing Election Commission comprised of City Clerk Swope, City Attorney Jim Smiertka, and City Assessor Sharon Frischman, made the determination today to remove Marc Townsend from the August 8th City Primary ballot for Mayor. After reviewing candidate filing documents and voter registration history, Mr. Townsend was declared ineligible due to his failing to prove he had resided in the City before January 1, 2017.

Mr. Townsend did not attend the Election Commission meeting or supply any supporting documentation to prove that he had “been a resident of the city for one year prior to taking office” on January 1, 2018 as required by the City Charter.
