Mother’s Day began:
In 1858, when Anna Jarvis, a young Appalachian homemaker, organized “Mother’s Work Days” to improve the sanitation and avert deaths from disease-bearing insects and seepage of polluted water.

Sculpture In The Streets arrives in downtown Lansing in a festival atmosphere at 5:30pm on Friday evening, May 31, 2002. At the Sculpture Premiere, all 15 shrouded sculptures will be grouped on the block of 100 North Washington Square for a special under-the-stars unveiling ceremony, giving the public its first glimpse of the whimsical bronzes.
