Campaign ad in Black newspaper has wrong election date, allegedly tries to confuse Black voters
LANSING, MI – A recent ad in the Black-owned newspaper, Michigan Bulletin, from GOP House candidate Tom Barrett list the wrong election date, which could confuse Black voters. Barrett’s ad calls for voters to hit the polls on November 6, when Election Day is Tuesday, November 5. This appears to be a gross attempt to mislead Black voters. The Lansing Branch NAACP stands by the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus, which filed a complaint with the Ingham County Prosecuting Office alleging that Barrett’s campaign violated state law.
“This appears to be a blatant effort to misinform and confuse Black voters in Lansing, ” said Harold A. Pope, president of the Lansing Branch NAACP. “The NAACP will do everything in our power to help ensure that voters in Lansing have the correct information regarding Election Day, which is November 5.”
