MOM OF SLAIN HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL GUARD FORGIVES

Jacqueline Carter, the mother of slain Holocaust Museum security guard Stephen Johns, says she has no hatred in her heart for the self-proclaimed white supremacist who shot and killed her only son.

"I can’t hate the man. If I hated I wouldn’t be any better than he," she told local news channel WUSA. "If he does survive maybe he can get rid of hate in his heart," said Carter.

Police have charged 88 year-old James Von Brunn with murder. He was shot in the face during the incident last week and remains in critical but stable condition. Authorities say he is expected to survive his wounds.

Carter says of her forgiveness, "It’s heartwrenching, don’t get me wrong, it’s not easy during these tough times but what can you do."

Both the U.S. Holocaust Museum (http://bit.ly/HZgdT) and the American Jewish Committee (http://bit.ly/Fh2cn) have set up memorial funds for Johns’ family.
