We live in a time where everyone seems to be so busy. Unfortunately, the traditional habits of families of the past have been abandoned. We used to be a culture where talking to each other was valued. There used to be family conversation around the breakfast and dinner table. In our society today, we leave messages on the refrigerator, on the back door, and if we do not have time for that, we simply e-mail each other.
The art and value of talking to each other appears to be gone from our society. This phenomenon has forced a life style, which breeds an impersonal communication system. As a result, many people have taken this non-personal communication style to church. You may sit next to a person Sunday after Sunday and never say hello. This kind of communication is not healthy for the church or for our homes.
As I reflect on what God desires in terms of communication, there is great JOY for me. Our heavenly father is not too busy to hear us, or not too busy to talk with us. In the bible God speaks in Jeremiah 33:3 “Call on me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which you do not know.” This is God’s voice and his invitation to talk to him. He wants us to talk to him. He has some good news to share with us. Stop your busy clock, and spend some time with God.
When we talk to God, we should do it in a spirit of prayer. Praise is awesome, but prayer is better. Prayer grounded in faith, brings God’s presence into your problems. Once God shows up, he shows out. Take time today to talk with God, if you do, I am certain your results will be joy in the Lord.
