Years ago while working as a nonprofit executive in Chicago, one of my Board members who was the CEO of a global pharmaceutical corporation said that anyone who can passionately work at a nonprofit in a demanding environment delivering quality service while making a nickel dance before spending – can manage my business anytime.

Chances are, you are woefully unprepared for that upcoming interview and you don’t even know it. Talking points rehearsed? Check. Company and interviewer researched? Of course. Answers to tough questions practiced? You bet. Psychological tells analyzed? Uh, come again? Without knowing it, you communicate your deep psychological beliefs, attitudes and weaknesses every time you open your mouth. I’ve interviewed people who looked stellar on paper, but who exposed their hidden tendencies, issues and mental roadblocks as soon as they spoke.

  ”What does your fund manager do?” screamed the headline of the April 8 edition of Barron’s. All I could think was, “What, indeed!” The article says some superstar fund managers “fly around the world, they crunch reams of data, they dissect industries” – and, for good measure, ultimately beat the index against which their funds are measured.

Left:  Village Summit is a located at 119 East Barnes in Lansing , MI. They focus on unity and bringing together people in their community while being inclusive of others as well. Community participation is a main objective at the Village Summit. They teach children that it may take one person to dream but it takes the entire village to make one’s dream a reality.
