Mother Flippin’: One Funny Mother – I Know How You Feel
By Tashmica TorokI have spent so much time in my life avoiding horrible memories. My mind never seems to shut off and sometimes, when it goes back too far or too deep, I want to open my skull and just set my brain next to me to buzz and whir. I will just sit numb and empty for awhile. Just for awhile. Then I will put it back because there’s good stuff in there too.
I can distract myself. I can drink wine to make my thinking slow. I can ignore the thoughts. I can pick a new thought to ponder instead. I can fill my calendar to the edges. I can do all of these things for the rest of my life.
I am exhausted.

I sometimes top each portion with some grilled, broiled, or sauteed shrimp, fish fillet, chicken breast, or even sliced steak, lamb, or pork. Credit:
